By purchasing the Cendrel instead of a conventional warping frame the more experienced weaver will have a tool to help their children learn how to weave along side her/him. Upon purchasing a floor or table loom, the Cendrel can then become the warping frame used by the weaver to prepare their warp. The versatility of the Cendrel loom allows the novice weaver to inexpensively test their interest in weaving before advancing to a more complicated multi-shaft table or floor loom. Non-slip rubber pads have been added to the base to keep it from moving and the loom has been designed to operate with the weaver sitting in a conventional chair. The pegs are all held tight using easily removable wing nuts and the loom base has been widened to increase stability. Made from the finest clear Canadian hard maple, the loom is sturdily constructed using dual sets of 1/4" carriage bolts. Once the loom is warped the weaver uses a rag shuttle to weave in the weft or can use tapestry techniques to create complex weaves. The warp yarn takes a slightly different path every other revolution and is threaded through string heddles (instructions for making these are provided) which are used to create the shed used when weaving. To operate the loom, yarn is first warped onto the frame with an even tension in a similar fashion as a weaver would wind a warp on a warping frame, allowing the yarn to follow a set path around the pegs. The complexity of the pattern, the combination of colours and the number of applications for the finished bands are only limited by the weaver's imagination. Bands can also be sewn together to produce handbags, cushions, wallhangings, table runners, ponchos, vests and other garments. Inkle bands can be used as bracelets, belts, neckties, headbands, guitar and camera straps, fabric trim, edgings, drape tiebacks, bookmarks, pet collars and leashes or for hundreds of other uses. Warping the loom is quick and simple enough for a small child to learn the technique easily. The Inkle loom presents the novice weaver with an approach to weaving that is simple, practical and artistic. An "inkle" is a narrow woven band of fabric and Inkle bands up to 16 feet (5 metres) long and 6 inches (15 cm) wide can be produced on the Cendrel loom. The Leclerc Cendrel loom is a versatile Inkle loom which can also be used as a warping frame for a conventional table or floor loom.
